GSG's role

GSG is developing those components of the Victorian Government EA that provide value to departments and agencies. This will form the basis for a whole of Victorian Government (WoVG) view in those areas where there is the most benefit. These are typically frameworks, reference models, policies and standards.

GSG’s role in EA is also to:
  • encourage and support departments and agencies in carrying out their own internal EA;
  • facilitate the exchange of information to develop EA skills; and
  • support WoVG ICT projects whether undertaken within GSG or elsewhere.
In carrying out its EA role, the current GSG EA work includes:
  • the EA Community of Practice;
  • facilitating the WoVG EA Reference Group;
  • supporting the Efficient Technology Services program; and
  • developing further standards for Identity and Access Management.
GSG is considering developing policies, standards and guidelines in the following domains:
  • ICT Project Governance and Management; and
  • information interchange between systems.

What is it?

Enterprise Architecture (EA) is the practice of documenting the:
  • elements of a business (strategy, model, processes, organisation etc);
  • information necessary to operate the business;
  • applications that serve the business operations; and
  • technologies that enable these.
EA documentation is a blueprint showing a description of the current and target states of a business. EA is used to guide decision-making, both by identifying new initiatives to improve business performance, and by evaluating proposals for changes to the business and its ICT systems.
